New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm was suspended one game and fined an undisclosed amount, Major League Baseball announced Friday.
Chisholm is appealing the suspension and is in the lineup Friday against the Tampa Bay Rays, manager Aaron Boone said, per MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch. The 27-year-old violated the league’s social media policy when he posted criticism of home plate umpire John Bacon after he was ejected for arguing balls and strikes during Thursday’s game.
Chisholm was tossed for arguing a called third strike in the top of the seventh inning of Thursday’s game.
He didn’t waste time expressing his thoughts following the ejection, posting on X from the clubhouse that the call wasn’t “even f—–g close.” He later deleted the post.
MLB’s social media rules prohibit players from displaying or transmitting content that questions the impartiality or otherwise denigrates an umpire.
Following Thursday’s game, Chisholm said he wouldn’t be bothered by a potential fine.
“I did what I did,” he said. “I can live with the fine.”
Chisholm was hitless in four at-bats with two strikeouts in Friday’s 1-0 win.
