Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras hit a monster home run off Chicago White Sox right-hander Dylan Cease on Friday and promptly uncorked one of the wildest bat flips in recent memory.

White Sox reliever Jimmy Cordero hit Contreras with a pitch during his next at-bat. Cordero was then ejected from the game.

Despite the plunking, Contreras wouldn’t change a thing.

“I’m not going to change anything,” Contreras said, according to The Athletic’s Patrick Mooney. “I play hard for my team. I always want to do the best for my team. But if they don’t like me, that’s fine. I don’t play for other teams to like me, anyways. And if I have to do it again, I will do it again.”

Cubs manager David Ross said postgame the plunking was out of line.

“It wasn’t to disrespect the other group,” Ross said, according to Jesse Rogers of ESPN. “It was because we’ve been struggling offensively and he brought some swagger. He brought some edge. I loved every second of it.

“I don’t think he deserved to get hit, at all.”

White Sox skipper Rick Renteria, who was also ejected, downplayed the incident and said Cordero didn’t hit the Cubs catcher intentionally, according to James Fegan of The Athletic.

Cordero also said the hit was accidental, according to Fegan.

Intentional or not, it didn’t phase Contreras. He clobbered his second home run of the game after the White Sox brought in second baseman Yolmer Sanchez to pitch in the ninth.
