Cubs catcher Willson Contreras isn’t a fan of the new pace of play rule changes the MLB will be implementing. In fact he’s prepared to break the rules if necessary.
Via ESPN:
“I don’t even care,” Contreras said Tuesday. “If I have to go [out there] again and pay the price for my team I will.”
“What about a tight game or an extra-inning game and you have to go out there?” he asked rhetorically. “They cannot say anything about that. That’s my team. If they are going to fine me for mound visit No. 7, I’ll pay the price.”
These pace of play rules are idiotic. I hope every catcher ignores the mound visit rule.
Catchers don’t need to make a mound visit after each pitch, but if they need to go to the mound 7 times in 9 innings, I hope they do.
