A Tom Brady tweet on April 1 2019 left fans around the world in a state of shock as Brady tweeted “I’m retiring. In my spare time, I’ll be tweeting #LFG”’. Brady left fans wondering if this was a true confirmation of the great man’s retirement but it turned out to be an April Fool’s joke, and we have another season at least of Tom Brady.
It’s a question that is asked every year “Will Tom Brady retire at the end of the season?”, but the NFL superstar continues to play on and perform for the Pats but perhaps 2020 brings the biggest indicators yet that either Tom Brady is set to retire or move to a different team before he calls it a day.
Will Tom Brady Retire with the Patriots?
The unmistakeable quarterback has been with New England for 20 seasons following his 199th pick in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft making his Patriots tenure an NFL record for the longest time playing for a quarterback for one franchise.
Brady did recently sign a two-year contract ‘extension’ with the Patriots which would in theory keep Brady at the Patriots until 2021 but the contract has been set up to void after this season which would potentially make Brady a free agent.
It would almost be unimaginable to see Tom Brady don the jersey of another team having built such a legacy at the Patriots.
One thing adding fire to the rumors is the news that Tom Brady recently sold his New England home and with his contract up with the Pats in 2020, is this a sign that he is retiring from the game and moving away? Or perhaps even the unthinkable that Tom Brady is signing for another franchise?
Will Brady Join Another NFL Team?
Brady could of course become a free agent in 2020 and he could certainly be exploring the options of a move away from the Patriots. But would Brady really play for somebody else having given so much to the Patriots? And if so where would he go?
Despite the quarterback’s lengthy career at the Pats, it’s worth bearing in mind that Brady was born and raised in California and that perhaps begs the question, would Brady fancy a homecoming move before he retires?
According to reports, several sources who know the great man believe one team would stand out as a potential destination for Brady, should he decide to move on: the Los Angeles Chargers.
Brady often trains in Southern California, has family in the state and his business partner and trainer lives there (Alex Gurrero). Brady may also be looking beyond his football career and has often shown keen interest in Hollywood, with a career in the big time not to be ruled out.
Could a 7th Super Bowl Title Signal The End of Brady’s Stellar Career?
Tom Brady has won an unrivalled six Super Bowl titles and it remains to be seen if he’ll get his hands on a 7th before he decides to call it a day.
Surely Brady will want to sign off with a Super Bowl win before he hangs up his boots.
Looking at the odds from the sportsbooks listed on Bet Today USA you will see New England Patriots are clear favourites to reclaim the Super Bowl in 2020, so there is plenty of reason to believe Brady will get a seventh title.
It remains to be seen what Brady will decide to do in 2020 but one thing is for sure it would be a very strange sight to see him in the jersey of another franchise, and for that reason alone we hope he sees out his playing days with the Pats whether that be in 2020 or beyond and sign off as the ultimate one team legend.
