Unlikely. There’s multiple reasons why, and the first one is how big of a season it is for Rangers, and how crucial it is that they don’t allow rivals Celtic to win their tenth title in a row. Glen Kamara is an important part of Rangers, and he has been since signing from Dundee for only £50,000. He will no doubt leave at some point in the near future, but it’s more likely he will still be a Rangers player come the end of this transfer window. Manager Steven Gerrard called on the Rangers board to quickly tie down Glen to a new contract in October 2020, but nothing has come of it yet, which could be a worry for the former Liverpool captain during this transfer window. If a bid were to come in, every player has their price and it would be looked at with a lot of consideration as Rangers sit 19 points clear of their rivals. It would then be a question of if the price is right for the midfielder to sell now or wait it out until the end of the season. Any other season I could see Glen Kamara easily leaving in January, but the importance of this season means he will almost certainly still be a Rangers player come the end of the January transfer window.
Rumours Of Interest?
It’s been rumoured previously that Leeds United have had an interest in Kamara, and I’ve no doubt that if he were to move to the English Premier League, which is a much stronger league than Scotland, he would fit in perfectly. We’ve seen plenty of players head down south from Scotland and prove that they can hang around with Premier League players, and Glen would fit into that category as he has all the talent to back it up. He’s shone on big European nights for the Scottish giants, against clubs like Porto and Benfica who are also said to be interested, so he would be able to fit in at a team like Leeds if they were to take a chance on the player.
Other Premier League clubs such as Newcastle, Everton, Southampton and Crystal Palace were reported to be admirers of the midfielder, but nothing has come of any of the rumours so far. In the past he’s been linked with giants Juventus and Borussia Dortmund, while Marseille are Lille were talked about too. I’m sure his preference though would be to have another crack at the Premier League having been a product of the Arsenal youth.
He would fit in perfectly I feel at an Everton or a Southampton, a team that is on the up and keeps the ball well. His ball playing is second to none, and he can bring a real calmness to a game when he’s on the ball. He has the ability to spot a killer pass, but can also do the dirty side of the game when called upon. He’s an all-round midfield player that wouldn’t look out of place in a top English side.
At 25, Glen is playing some of his best football and he deserves all the recognition he’s receiving at the moment due to his performances in Europe and against Celtic which will have caught the eye of plenty of teams. Even if a new contract is to be signed, it’s no guarantee that he’ll stay at Rangers beyond this season as it’ll likely just be a way for the club to receive more money for him when he eventually does go.
