Via The Athletic:
Fans attending the Super Bowl next month may want to hold on to their pricey tickets as collectors’ items: they could be the last real, paper tickets ever for the NFL’s title game.
In the midst of a major initiative to encourage mobile ticketing, the NFL is ramping up for the Miami Super Bowl to 10,000 the number of fans who enter using their phone for passes — double the figure from the last year. By next year in Tampa, the number of fans using mobile could total nearly 100 percent.
“We believe we’re very, very close,” Bobby Gallo, the NFL’s senior vice president of club business development, replied when asked when the Super Bowl would go fully mobile. “As you can appreciate, it’s just with that event being the single, biggest and greatest sporting event I would say in the world, you just want to make sure that everything is where it needs to be… But I’d say we’re very close.
“If and when we go fully mobile,…
At 5 grand a pop, I’d better be getting a pretty paper ticket!
