There are multiple reports out of Baton Rouge Louisiana that two LSU student athletes were involved in a fatal shooting shortly after 12 p.m. on Saturday.
According to WBRZ 2, the two LSU student athletes involved in the fatal shooting are football players. Their names have not been released:
The names of the athletes involved have not been released but they have been taken in for questioning. Sources tell WBRZ the athletes involved are LSU football players.
WBRZ reached out to LSU multiples times for a statement but the university did not comment until hours later.
LSU Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva confirmed that an LSU student athlete was involved but their concern is their students safety.
“We have today been in constant contact with law enforcement regarding this terrible situation. Right now, our concern is for the safety and wellbeing of our student-athletes. They have been involved in a traumatic incident and we have made our counselors available to assist immediately. All questions regarding the investigation should be directed to law enforcement at this time”.
From the statement released by LSU’s Director of Athletics it sounds like the two LSU athletes involved may have lost a friend in the shooting. There will certainly be more details to come from this.
