We introduced you to Tom’s niece Maya last year.
Now let us reintroduce Maya Brady, the oldest daughter of Tom’s oldest sister, Maureen, and the No. 2 recruit in the nation. She’s setting the bar for the next generation, heading to 12-time national champion UCLA in the fall, a coup for one of the top college programs in the country.
Brady is quoted in a Boston Globe feature by columnist Tara Sullivan on his talented niece, Maya Brady. She is the No. 2 overall softball recruit in the country and will be playing next season at powerhouse UCLA.
Per the Globe:
“I think Maya is already the most athletic person of the family,” the aforementioned Uncle Tommy concedes in comments to the Globe. “She’s just a great athlete, so competitive. And she’s been on such winning teams and she’s such a great teammate. It’s so impressive.”
Oaks Christian coach Pete Ackermann compared Maya Brady to another superstar.
“I’ve been doing this for 45 years, this is my 19th year at the school, and I’ve always had some really great players, blue collars,” Ackermann told the Globe. “And then when Maya enrolled at the school, I finally got my Derek Jeter, a person who can do it all and puts the team first.”
Maureen Brady, Maya’s mom, was 111-10 as a softball pitcher in high school, with 29 no-hitters and 14 perfect games. She went on to become an All-American at Fresno State.
The single mom is proud of her daughter’s commitment to the sport that comes with far different rewards than Uncle Tommy’s.
“Whereas my brother makes a million dollars every football game, girls aren’t going to do that,” Maureen told the Globe, “so the life lessons that you learn from being part of a team is what you take on for the rest of your life.”
Maya should definitely make her mark in college.
After that part of her life is finished, who knows what she’ll do. She’s A Brady, she’ll do great.
