Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson ‘humbly’ accepted a Razzie Award for his movie Baywatch via an Instagram video he posted on Sunday.
‘I am also excited because I was just informed that I too am bringing home the gold tonight. No, not an Oscar — maybe one day. But a Razzie,’ The Rock began.
‘The new category is a movie so rotten you eventually fell in love with it. I’m not kidding, which means the s— sandwich you’ve been eating is so bad that you eventually started to like it.
‘The movie was so bad that they actually had to create another category,’ he explained referring to the cheeky ceremony celebrating the worst films of the year
Baywatch, which boasts an 18 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, grossed $58.1 million in the United States for a worldwide total of $177.8 million, against a production budget of $69 million, so not all bad for The Rock.
Peter Travers of Rolling Stone said: ‘Think of yourself sitting down for a big two-hour wallow in instant stupid with a vat of popcorn, slathered in fake butter and possibly a mound of melted M&Ms on top.
‘It feels great chugging it down, then your stomach hurts, your head aches and you puke the whole thing up so you can forget about it in the morning. That’s Baywatch in a nutshell.’
If you haven’t seen it, here’s the trailer below. I watched it, and I have to say it was painful to sit through the entire movie. Luckily I watched it from the comfort of my own home, rather than an half empty theater. Better luck next movie.
