This weekend the New England Patriots quarterback took to Instagram to share a photo of his three children enjoying the sunset together amid a family vacation.
Odell Beckham Jr. made an appearance in the replies, dropping a comment that reads “Love u brother.”
While the New York Giants wideout simply could have been expressing sincere appreciation for a fellow NFL star, Patriots fans predictably ran wild with the exchange.
A report from Jay Glazer said that the Giants are going to be trying to trade their star receiver.
Now we’re finding out that the Patriots actually tried to trade for OBJ last year.

Sneaky nugget from Chris Simms on today's PFT Live: The Patriots were pushing hard to trade for @obj last year.

As Chris Simms explained on Monday’s PFT Live, New England’s interest in Beckham ultimately caused the Giants to think twice. Basically, if the Patriots saw something in Beckham that would have caused them to give up significant trade compensation and to cough up a significant second contract even though he’d never previously played for the Patriots, the Giants should be more inclined to keep him around.
The Patriots apparently were banking on Beckham thriving, with coach Bill Belichick, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, and quarterback Tom Brady providing the kind of structure, support, and (ultimately) success that would have kept Beckham from engaging in periodic outbursts fundamentally fueled by a burning desire to win.
So it didn’t work out last year but maybe something is brewing again.
Where there’s smoke, there’s usually fire.
