Some of these things may have or haven’t happened lately, or a while ago, but they are still quite interesting. A lot of scandals have happened in soccer, or as Europeans call it – football. Mind you, some of these affairs are quite shocking, so brace yourselves.

John Terry and Wayne Bridge’s wife

A captain should be the face of the team, the most presentable character, a true leader. Being the captain of a team is a great honour and a privilege. While being a captain of a club is a great achievement, being the captain of your national team is probably the greatest honour that a player can get.

John Terry, one of the greatest English soccer players of the 21st century is at the centre of this scandal. Terry, who was England captain slept with the wife of his best friend Wayne Bridge and this fact became public knowledge, despite the fact that Perroncel (Bridge’s ex-wife) denied the allegations. Terry was stripped off his English captaincy and had Bridge refuse to shake his hand during the Chelsea vs Manchester City match in February 2010.

Thibaut Courtois and Kevin De Bruyne’s girlfriend

Interestingly, John Terry isn’t the only Chelsea player to have slept with a teammate’s wife. Namely, Thibaut Courtois was accused of sleeping with De Bruyne’s girlfriend at the time – Caroline Lijnen. Both were Chelsea players in 2013, although Courtois was loaned out to Atletico Madrid. 

Unlike the Terry and Bridge situation, the two have reconciled. In addition to being teammates at Chelsea, Courtois and De Bruyne both play for the Belgium national team. 

Ryan Giggs and his ex-sister in law

This is perhaps the most outrageous, and somewhat bizarre affair is the one involving Manchester United legend and one of the best Welsh players of all times – Ryan Giggs. 

Namely, he had an eight-year affair with his brother Rhodri’s now ex-wife Natasha. Natasha even went public to admit that she aborted Ryan’s child soon after she married his brother. To make things even more absurd, Rhodri starred a betting commercial featuring a reference to his brother’s infidelity. The two siblings have since then hatched the axes, but one can only assume how awkward the situation is. In fact, there’s a phrase ‘more awkward than a Giggs family reunion’ and that really says it all.

Benzema blackmailing his teammate

This situation doesn’t involve cheating but is quite bizarre and weird in its own way. Namely, French international Karim Benzema, who currently plays for Real Madrid, was accused of blackmailing his teammate from France’s national team Mathieu Valbuena. 

Benzema threatened Valbuena that he will publish his private sex-tape. Reportedly he wanted to extort money from his teammate. Both players were left out of the French squad by manager Didier Deschamps. 

The Leicester City orgy scandal

Those who follow European and English football are surely aware of the upset caused by Leicester City, the club who managed to become Premier League champions against all odds. It was a lot less likely for Leicester to win the League, than it is for a player to hit the maximum prize on a game like Starburst slot.

We want to refer to an event that happened a year before they managed to lift the trophy. Namely, during the post-season tour in May 2015 (LCFC won the PL in 2016), a group of players, including the son of the team’s current manager engaged in sex orgy and what’s worse they made racist remarks towards the girls who participated in the orgy. All three players were sacked and there was an investigation during the matter.

Maxi Lopez, Mauro Icardi and the Wanda Nara saga

This wasn’t actually an affair, but Mauro Icardi started a relationship with Maxi Lopez’s former wife Wanda Nara (now Icardi) after she announced that Lopez cheated on her. The two are now married, and Wanda is also Icardi’s agent.

However, Lopez refused to shake Icardi’s hand during a match, and Icardi himself didn’t have a lot of kind words for Lopez, nor did Wanda. Wanda’s habit of publishing provocative pictures of herself, as well as provocative statements often mentioning other soccer players doesn’t make the situation any simpler or less awkward.
