Last week tight end Jason Witten announced that he was leaving ESPN and returning to the Cowboys. When Witten’s decision to return to the NFL was brought up to the NFL Network’s Steve Smith, the former receiver denied he would be coming out of retirement.

While it is a good line, it’s not entirely true. Sure Smith has more personality than Witten does, which isn’t that hard to do, but Smith isn’t calling games right now either.
We aren’t convinced Smith would be good at calling games either. Whereas Witten might have been a little bit better on TV in a similar role to Smith’s.
We’ll have to wait until Witten retires again to find out for sure.
