The Rockets are determined to land Jimmy Butler, despite not having the cap space to sign him as s free agent.  It was reported that they want him to force the Sixers sign and trade him.

According to The Athletic, Butler may not have to force Philadelphia to sign and trade him.  The Sixers are apparently open to working out a sign and trade, if Bulter wants to be leave Philly.

“Houston is clearly serious about finding a way to land Butler, who grew up in nearby Tomball, Texas and who is at the top of the Rockets’ offseason wish list. As for the key question of whether the Sixers would be willing to cooperate in a possible sign-and-trade, a source with knowledge of their situation said it’s looking likely. There is, it seems, a strong desire to avoid losing him for nothing if Butler decides to head elsewhere.”

It’s a win-win for everyone, assuming Butler wants to go to Houston.  Which isn’t a guarantee given their reported off the court issues.
