— Russell Wilson (@DangeRussWilson) June 1, 2020
Wilson wrote that as a black father, he fears for the lives of his step son, 6-year-old Future, his daughter, 3-year-old Sienna and his baby boy who’s on the way.
“I fear for their lives just like my grandmother feared for my dad’s life and the lives of her other children,” Wilson said. “I fear because of the color of their beautiful chocolate skin.”
Wilson said that racism cannot continue to be ignored.
“We cannot continue to ignore racism as though it has ended, or never happened,” Wilson said. “The continual violence inflicted upon blacks and people of color must stop. We need a change now. We need love. We need compassion. We need grace and forgiveness even in the midst of pain.
“We need true leadership. We need justice. We need equality.”
Wilson added that the video of Floyd “broke” his heart and seeing the cruelty of the situation made him want to “rage and lash out.”
Russell is never afraid to speak out.
