Former Toronto Raptors coach Nick Nurse is meeting with the Philadelphia 76ers later this week about the franchise’s vacant head coaching position, sources told Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The Sixers parted ways with head coach Doc Rivers after the team was eliminated in the second round by the Boston Celtics in seven games. The organization hasn’t made the conference finals since 2001.
Philadelphia is reportedly expected to consider former Milwaukee Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer, former Los Angeles Lakers head coach Frank Vogel, former Phoenix Suns bench boss Monty Williams, current Sixers assistant Sam Cassell, and veteran coach Mike D’Antoni.
Nurse has reportedly been linked to the open Suns job as well after the organization relieved Williams of his duties earlier in May.
The Raptors fired Nurse in April after a 41-41 campaign that ended in a play-in tournament loss to the Chicago Bulls. The 55-year-old spent five seasons as head coach in Toronto, leading the franchise to its only NBA championship in 2019 and winning Coach of the Year the following season.
