The New York Jets continue to add offensive pieces.
Running back Dalvin Cook is signing a one-year deal with the Jets worth up to $8.6 million, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Cook has eclipsed 1,100 rushing yards in each of the last four seasons and earned four consecutive Pro Bowl nods. He has totaled 7,787 scrimmage yards and 52 touchdowns in 73 career games.
The former Minnesota Viking will play alongside ex-Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The pair had a 4-4-1 record in head-to-head matchups as division rivals.
Cook is at least a week away from being able to practice with his new team after undergoing shoulder surgery in February, per Schefter. The 28-year-old will also become a father for the first time soon, which could delay his arrival.
He joins a backfield that’s set to feature 2022 second-round pick Breece Hall and 2023 fifth-rounder Israel Abanikanda. Hall had 681 scrimmage yards and five total touchdowns in seven games as a rookie but missed the remainder of his first campaign after suffering a torn ACL.
Hall isn’t guaranteed to be available for Week 1 as he continues to rehab the knee injury. Adding Cook to the mix gives the club a pair of explosive playmakers out of the backfield as it seeks its first playoff berth since the 2010 season.
