The Chicago Bears are trading a 2026 fourth-round pick to the Kansas City Chiefs for offensive lineman Joe Thuney, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Chicago is actively trying to rework its offensive line for next season. It sent a sixth-round pick to the Los Angeles Rams for interior offensive lineman Jonah Jackson earlier this week. Caleb Williams suffered more sacks than any other quarterback (68) in the NFL last season.
Thuney has been with the Kansas City Chiefs since he signed a five-year, $80-million contract during free agency in 2021. He spent the first five years of his career with the New England Patriots.
The 32-year-old is set to become a free agent in 2026. He has one year remaining on his deal and is projected to have a $26.9-million cap hit for the upcoming season, according to Over The Cap.
Thuney has primarily been a guard in the NFL but was kicked outside to offensive tackle late last season as the Chiefs struggled to find a starting-caliber left tackle throughout the 2024 campaign. He allowed two sacks and 35 pressures in 365 pass-blocking snaps last year, according to PFF.
Thuney has started 146 games during his nine-year career.
