Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies signed a 7-year, $35 million extension a couple of weeks ago. The deal turned heads around the league for being extremely team friendly. Some say Albies left as much as $50 million on the table.
During Wednesday night’s Braves and Reds game in Cincinnati, Fox Sports Ohio Reds analyst Chris Welsh decided to weigh in on the Albies deal. He did so by saying the Braves second basemen might not know the difference between $35 and $85 million.
“He came from a very poor background. He’s from CuraƧao, and if somebody offered you $35 million, I mean, he might not know the difference between $35 million and $85 million.”

As you might expect, Welsh’s ridiculous comments didn’t sit well with people. It is absolutely possible that it isn’t all about the money for Albies.
Sure he could have demanded more money, but maybe he really wanted to stay in Atlanta. Let’s not forget the fact that $5 million a year makes for more than a decent living.
