Via USA Today Sports:
Entering his final year before free agency, Sale and the Red Sox hammered out a five-year, $145 million extension just before the 2019 season began, one of several questionable transactions that preceded the dismissal of chief baseball officer Dave Dombrowski.
Now, Sale will be on the shelf for most of years one and two of that deal, although Major League Baseball’s coronavirus shutdown means he may not be missing much this year, anyway.
For a starting pitcher, Tommy John recovery can be an up to 18-month process, which casts much of his 2021 status in doubt, as well. The Red Sox did not announce a date for his surgery.
All of this and they have their own sign stealing scandal to not get punished for. 2020 is going to be a forgettable season in Boston.
