Victor Wembanyama, the projected No. 1 overall pick, has officially declared for this year’s NBA draft, he told ESPN’s Malika Andrews on NBA Today.
Wembanyama’s guard-like skills for his towering size have made him arguably the most heralded prospect since LeBron James.
The 7-foot-3 big man spent the past year with Metropolitans 92 of France’s LNB Pro A, averaging 21.4 points, 9.9. boards, 3.1 blocks, and 2.3 assists over 29 appearances in the country’s top basketball league.
Wembanyama shot 46.9% from the field, drilled 30.4% of his 3-point attempts, and made 83.5% of his free throws. He led all players in field goals made, rebounds, and blocks.
The NBA draft lottery is May 16. The Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets, and San Antonio Spurs each have a 14% chance to win the top draft selection.
“I am not worried; there is no bad organization. I never tell myself I don’t like to go there,” Wembanyama told ESPN in January. “Every organization is so careful about their players that there’s no wrong destination.”
