The Pitt Panthers upset the 23rd ranked Virginia Cavaliers on Friday night 23-13. The win put Pitt, at 5-4, in first place in the ACC Coastal Division.
But many people are talking about a celebration that took place in the 4th quarter after a pass breakup. Pitt defensive back Damarri Mathis appeared to use a machine gun gesture to celebrate the play.
@Deadspin so #16 Mathis on Pitt celebrated a big play simulating shooting a machine gun. Of all places. pic.twitter.com/m8bdMhRyO5

The celebration couldn’t have come at a worse time. Last Saturday morning in Pittsburgh, a gunman shot and killed 11 people at the Tree of Life Synagogue during a ceremony.
Not a great look for Mathis. I’m sure he wasn’t doing the celebration in an attempt to be disrespectful to the victims of the shooting.
You have to think through these kinds of celebrations, especially this close to a shooting. It’s not a great look.
