Phillies manager Gabe Kapler went on the MLB Network on Friday morning and made a pitch to Bryce Harper and Manny Machado. He spoke about the J.T. Real Realmuto trade they recently pulled off and how it proves they’re trying to win right now.

Who wouldn’t want the opportunity to win right now? You would think a couple of star players who have spent the majority of their careers without that opportunity would.
But the fact that neither Harper nor Machado has signed with the Phillies, or anyone for that matter, might suggest chasing the dollars is more important to them than chasing rings.
Which is fine, just don’t blame the teams for not wanting to bend over backwards to sign you to long-term ridiculous deals that will tie the franchise’s arms behind its back for a decade.
