The lawyers for a company called Harrison/Erickson have informed the Phillies that they are reclaiming the copyright for the Phillie Phanatic.
40 years ago the company was paid $215,000 to create the mascot costume for Philadelphia. Copyright law allows for an author to reclaim rights after 35 years.
The Phillies aren’t letting their famous mascot go without a fight and have filed a lawsuit to block H/E from claiming it owns the copyright to the costume.
