Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton threw cold water on trade rumors surrounding wide receivers Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton.
He told NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero on Sunday that the team is “not trading” either of its two star receivers.
Payton added that the club has received calls for Jeudy and Sutton, but the Broncos are more focused on improving their team rather than shipping out talent.
“Those are two good football players. But we’re in the business of gathering talent right now,” Payton said. “Why do people call? Because they know we’re void of draft picks and that we might because there was some discussions a year ago, I think, regarding Courtland. But we like the current group that we’re working with.”
Both Sutton and Jeudy have been linked to trade rumors over the last year. It was previously reported that Denver was seeking at least a first-round pick for Jeudy. The New England Patriots apparently inquired about Jeudy’s availability.
A first-round selection in 2020, Jeudy had his best season last year with 67 catches for 972 yards and six touchdowns. Meanwhile, Sutton enjoyed another productive campaign with 829 yards, his highest in a season since 2019.
Payton was brought in to spearhead a revival on offense after Denver underperformed to a 5-12 record in 2022 with quarterback Russell Wilson. The unit finished last in the NFL with an average of 16.9 points per game.
