Patrick Mahomes is spilling the beans on Bronze.
Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife welcomed their second child on Monday. They had a boy named Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III. The NFL MVP is named after his father, former MLB pitcher Pat Mahomes. The 27-year-old QB and his wife decided to continue the first name tradition in the family by naming their first son “Patrick” as well. In February 2021, the two welcomed their first child, a daughter named Sterling Skye.
Related to the “Bronze” nickname for their newborn son, Mahomes told reporters that it was actually his younger brother, Jackson, who suggested the name.
Mahomes explained how it came to be, via TMZ:
“My brother Jackson, whenever we were trying to find something that was a little unique and different, he said, ‘What about Bronze? It fits perfectly with Sterling. So, we went with that.
It works out well. He can have his own thing now where he’s not Patrick, he’s Bronze, even though he’s Patrick. And, Sterling and Bronze can have that connection moving forward.”
Patrick and Brittany are high school sweethearts, having attended Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse, Texas. They were engaged in Sept. 2020, just before the start of the NFL regular season, and married in March of this year.
The No. 10 pick of the 2017 NFL Draft is in his sixth NFL season, and his fifth as the Chiefs’ starting quarterback. Mahomes is widely regarded as the 2022 NFL MVP front-runner, with a 66.1 completion percentage, 3,585 passing yards and 29 touchdowns against eight interceptions.
Mahomes and the Chiefs have the NFL’s No. 1 scoring offense, having averaged 29.6 points per game heading into Week 13. They control their own destiny for the AFC’s lone first-round bye, putting them in terrific position to host a fifth straight Conference Championship Game at Arrowhead.
Kansas City only has two games remaining against teams with a winning record, and one of those contests will take place this Sunday. At 4:25 p.m. EST, the Chiefs will visit Joe Burrow and the surging Cincinnati Bengals in a rematch of last year’s thrilling AFC Championship Game.
