The Baltimore Orioles reached an agreement with the first overall pick in this year’s draft, Adley Rutschman. The former Oregon State catcher landed a record signing bonus.
Rutschman’s $8.1 million signing bonus topped the $8 million pitcher Gerrit Cole received back in 2011.
No. 1 overall pick Adley Rutschman signs with @Orioles for $8.1 mil (pick value = $8,415,300). New @MLBDraft bonus record, eclipsing Gerrit Cole's $8 mil as No. 1 overall in 2011. Oregon State, best catching prospect in recent @MLBDraft history, huge offensive & defensive upside.

Hopefully that kind of money is enough to get Rutschman used to losing, because that’s what Baltimore likes to do. They also love to overpay marginally talented players.
Buckle up Adley, it’s going to be a rough start to your professional career.
