The NFL owners are expected to once again push for an 18 game regular season during the collective bargaining renegotiation process. They first tried to expand the regular season during the last renegotiation of the CBA back in 2011.
It didn’t happen last time around and there’s no indication that it will happen this time around either.
A high-ranking official with one NFL team said that there are “some owners who would like to expand the season” to 18 games, adding it’s not clear “if there is much support from the players on that.”
I couldn’t imagine a scenario where the players would agree to playing more regular season games. They would all need pay raises and the owners probably wouldn’t be down for that.
