Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday is bullish on his new squad days after being traded to one of the Eastern Conference’s top teams.
“I feel like coming here is definitely my best chance of winning,” Holiday said at his introductory press conference.
Holiday spent the last three seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks. The franchise finished within the East’s top three in each campaign, winning a championship in 2021.
For their part, the Celtics have won just one fewer game than the Bucks over the last two seasons and beat Milwaukee in the conference semifinals in 2022.
With longtime Boston guard Marcus Smart off to the Memphis Grizzlies, Holiday should start alongside All-Stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, the latter of which Holiday called “one of the best players I’ve played against in my life.”
While many experts view the Celtics as the team to beat with the additions of Holiday and star forward Kristaps Porzingis, their main competition may once again be Holiday’s old team, which added superstar Damian Lillard.
The two teams kick off what could be one of the NBA’s best four-game regular-season matchups with an early-campaign duel Nov. 22 in Boston.
