It was reported on Friday evening that the Nets have extended a qualifying offer to D’Angelo Russell. Prior to that move it was believed that Brooklyn was going to renounce his rights and let him hit the open market.
Letting Russell hit the open market would have cleared over $20 million in cap space and cleared the way for two max contracts. This move makes it more difficult to do that, which could mean that Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant aren’t planning to sign with them as previously reported.
Sources: Brooklyn has extended a qualifying offer to All-Star free agent D’Angelo Russell, making him a restricted free agent.

Just when the so-called experts thought they had everything figured out. It’s going to be a fast and furious free agency signing period.
