Memphis Grizzlies superstar Ja Morant apologized for brandishing a gun on Instagram in his first interview since the March 4 incident.

Speaking with ESPN’s Jalen Rose, Morant began by clarifying that the gun didn’t belong to him before expressing regret about the situation.

“It’s not who I am. I don’t condone any type of violence, but I take full responsibility for my actions,” Morant said. “I made a bad mistake … but in the future, I’m going to show everybody who Ja really is, what I’m about, and change this narrative.”

The NBA suspended Morant for eight games without pay on Wednesday after it determined his conduct was detrimental to the league.

While he’s eligible to return to the team on Monday, Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins said he expects Morant to be out for a longer period of time, according to The Associated Press’ Tim Reynolds.
