Huge move for the Phillies. They get their man. Harper is the guy they wanted, the left-handed power hitter they needed. #Harper #Phillies

A late push by the Giants and the Dodgers wasn’t enough to pry Harper away from the team that entered the sweepstakes as the favorite. Signing with the Phillies keeps Harper in the National League East where he will have plenty of opportunity to face his former team.
The Phillies got their guy, but at what cost to the organization long-term. None of these 10+ year contracts have ever worked out for the teams that have handed them out.
Why would it be any different for Philadelphia?
