Here’s something you probably haven’t seen before.
In the first inning of the Minor League game between the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, and the Salem Red Sox, Class-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, a hitter tried to reach base with a drag bunt. The ball was fielded, then bobbled by Pelicans pitcher Javier Assad, who then kicked the ball to the first baseman for the out.
The heads up play set the tone for the game and the Pelicans rolled to a 12-2 victory over the Red Sox.

Props to Assad for the heads up play and to the Pelicans first baseman for being prepared for whatever was about to come his way, even a kicked ball. Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good.
