Jason Lieser, a reporter for the Palm Beach Post, issued an apology last night after he sent an offensive tweet regarding the crowd at Wells Fargo Center during Game 5 between the Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers.
The tweet, which has since been deleted, read: “I don’t know why they’re making such a big deal about Meek Mill tonight. Half this arena just got out of jail.”
He deleted that tweet, of course we have a screenshot, then he apologized for the joke later on. You know you can’t make a joke like that these days without everyone up in arms. Check out his apology below.
That was a bad tweet, and I do apologize. It was a careless joke about the rowdy atmosphere in the arena. That's all I meant by it. Shouldn't have done it.

Just a joke about how rowdy it is in here. Didn’t mean anything by it. https://t.co/rtnUhNxHyp

Some fans even predicted this would happen after his initial tweet hit their timeline.

Some even defended the reporter for his sense of humor, backing him up.
I’m a Sixers/Phillies fan and I found it funny. I have a sense of humor though. I don’t get offended by jokes. People get offended easy today. Everybody wants to be the victim.

I thought it was hilarious. Nothing racial about it. Well timed. you’ll be fine. Twitter soldiers will find another shiny object in an hour.

No need to apologize man. People cry about everything.

Goes to show you, humor is subjective, but if there were any racist undertones, he had to be called out on it. That’s how it works, you make a joke, people have the right to react. Everyone caves to societal pressures. On to the next joke for the Heat reporter.
