Robinson Cano’s days with the Seattle Mariners appear to be over. The team is putting together a trade with the New York Mets to dump the $120 million remaining on his contract.
In order to get rid of Cano they had to sweeten the deal with closer Edwin Diaz, who saved a league high 57 games last season. In return the Mets are sending Jay Bruce and Anthony Swarzak to Seattle along with two to three prospects.
Can report this more definitively: As of now, the not-yet- official Mets Mariners trade on the table is Cano/Diaz for Bruce/Swarzak/Kelenic/McNeil/Dunn

The deal has heated up in the last couple of days and is expected to be completed on Friday.
The blockbuster trade that would send Robinson Canó and Edwin Díaz to the New York Mets for Jay Bruce, Anthony Swarzak and at least two top prospects is expected to be completed by Friday, league sources familiar with the deal tell Yahoo Sports.

Was it worth it to the Mariners to hand Cano his ridiculous 10-year $240 million contract? It doesn’t look like they’re happy with the return on investment.
