Melvin Gordon wants a new contract before the Los Angeles Chargers open training camp next week and is preparing to hold out if he doesn’t get one.
Gordon has emerged as one of the best backs in football.
Last season he rushed for 885 yards and 10 touchdowns in 12 games, adding 50 receptions for another 490 yards and four scores.
Gordon made $10.6 million in his first four seasons and will play this year on a $5.6 million fifth-year team option
Now he wants to get paid while he’s still relevant as an NFL running back.
The running back told ESPN that teammates support his business decision, even if it means they’ll press forward without their starter.
