Conor McGregor remains focused on fighting Michael Chandler this year.
McGregor – who was scheduled to face Chandler at UFC 303 in June but withdrew due to injury – tweeted Saturday that his highly anticipated bout versus his rival is “for sure” still happening in 2024 after having a conversation with UFC CEO Dana White.
“I talked to Dana today about our new date, all looking good,” McGregor wrote in reply to a Chandler tweet.
McGregor hasn’t fought since 2021. The former two-division champion’s blockbuster comeback fight versus Chandler was scheduled for June 29, but it was called off on June 13. McGregor later revealed that he sustained a broken toe while preparing for the bout.
The UFC intends to reschedule McGregor-Chandler in 2024, but a date has yet to be announced.
Chandler, 38, recently said he’d accept a fight versus McGregor at UFC 306, scheduled for Sept. 14 at Sphere in Las Vegas.
The 36-year-old McGregor said in June that his toe needed “a few weeks” to heal.
