A former Lions player anonymously revealed to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, that Detroit’s first year head coach Matt Patricia was consistently late to team meetings. Something that members of the media have noticed when it comes to his media availability as well.
In fact, Patricia was late for Wednesday’s media availability where he was asked about the importance of punctuality.
Patricia, who has routinely showed up late for his media availability sessions in his first year as head coach, was asked about the importance of punctuality for a head coach at his weekly news conference Wednesday — a session that was pushed back 30 minutes from its original scheduled time, and then started 15 or so minutes after that.
His answer to the question of punctuality was exactly what you would expect from a head coach.
“I think it just depends on the situation really,” Patricia said. “It depends. There’s a pretty busy schedule from those situations I think for everybody. I think fluidity is probably the best answer for you.”
No wonder the Lions are 5-10 heading into their last game of the season. And is it really all that shocking that Patricia is a guy who is always late?
Sure he coached under Bill Belichick and that kind of thing probably wasn’t accepted. But in Detroit, Patricia’s running his own team now and the one thing we can gather from his appearance is that he’s a guy who is late.
