The Lakers are reportedly interested in a reunion with their former number two overall pick, D’Angelo Russell. In order to make that happen, Los Angeles would have a lot of work to do.
The Lakers first order of business is to figure out how to create another max spot in order to add another star to go with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. If they can figure it out then Russell, among others, might be in play.
Via ESPN:
There is at least a kernel of truth to the Lakers’ interest in a reunion, sources say, but L.A. has a lot to sort out. Russell fits the Knicks’ timeline in case they strike out on bigger fish, but all indications are that New York will pursue short-term deals in that scenario, sources say. The Minnesota Timberwolves’ pathway to a Russell deal is murky. Other unexpected sign-and-trade candidates will poke around.
The reunion with Russell might be the last option if they can’t convince Kyrie Irving or Jimmy Butler to take their talents to Los Angeles. But a guy like Russell could certainly help the Lakers in the weakened Western Conference.
