Warriors guard Klay Thompson went down with an ankle injury during Golden State’s Game 6 win over the Clippers in the first round. Head Coach Steve Kerr admitted during his media appearance on Saturday that Thompson’s ankle sprain is significant.
According to Marcus Thompson of The Athletic, the Splash Brother’s ankle is in “pretty bad shape” and his availability for Game 1 of their second-round series against the Rockets is in question.
The Warriors did not escape the first-round series with the Clippers unscathed. Saturday morning, hours after the Warriors won their sixth-straight road playoff game, Klay Thompson’s sprained ankle was still pretty bad, according to sources.
Bad enough to put his availability in question for Game 1 against visiting Houston on Sunday? That is certainly on the table. How his ankle responds to treatment the next 34 hours is what the Warriors are watching closely.
The Clippers hanging with the Warriors and now a significant injury to Thompson has to give the Rockets a ton of confidence heading into the series. Golden State still has plenty of firepower, but any help they can get from a health perspective has to go into the win column. This could be the series that ends the Warriors run.
