Free agent tight end Julius Thomas announced his retirement from football to go back to school. The 30 year old is walking away from the NFL to pursue a doctorate in psychology.
Thomas wants to help people heal from their emotional and mental pain. As well as study the effects of contact sports on brain trauma.
Via The Players’ Tribune:
While making the decision to no longer play the game is difficult, I’m also incredibly excited about what’s next: Studying therapy and becoming well trained in it so that I can help people heal from their emotional and mental pain.
Investigating the effects of contact sports on brain trauma and neurobehavioral performance.
Participating in research looking at biomarkers that may identify early warning signs of brain disease.
Making over $46 million during his NFL career probably makes the decision to retire a little easier. Hopefully he achieves his goals and saves us all.
