The NFL has not only decided that falling at the feet of a quarterback and brushing your finger tips across the quarterback is roughing the passer, they also have decided it’s worth a $20k fine. That’s what Steelers pass rusher T.J. Watt was fined for his phantom roughing the passer call on Falcons QB Matt Ryan.
Here is the play in question:
Can’t believe this was a roughing the passer against @_TJWatt.

Here is the fine announcement from Adam Schefter:
NFL fined its co-sack leader, TJ Watt, $20,054 for “forcibly hitting in the knee area or below” Falcons’ QB Matt Ryan, per source. The league office instructed the Steelers to deduct the money from Watt’s paycheck if he does not appeal.

If you’re confused by the roughing the passer call on this play and the fine that followed, you’re not alone. T.J.’s brother J.J. Watt is also confused by it and he took to Twitter to question it.
$20,000 for this?!?!?! https://t.co/9qkTAmjHvg

The NFL is ruining America’s most popular sport one roughing the passer call at a time.
