The girlfriend of Cleveland Browns defensive end Chris Smith was killed early on Wednesday morning. Petara Cordero was hit by a driver who had been drinking while she was standing on the side of the road.
The vehicle Smith and Cordero were traveling in blew a tire and suffered some damage after it hit the wall in the median. Cordero was standing next to the vehicle at the time of the accident.
