79-year-old former Bears head coach Mike Ditka reportedly suffered a heart attack early this week. He is in a Florida hospital recovering and is said to be doing well.
Via the Chicago Tribune:
The iconic former Bears coach suffered a heart attack, WGN reported, citing anonymous sources. Ditka reportedly is recovering and expected to be released from the hospital in several days.
Ditka’s agent, Steve Mandell, did not immediately return a phone message Friday night. Jarrett Payton, WGN reporter and son of late Bears great Walter Payton, tweeted confirmation that Ditka is in the hospital and is “doing well.”
The report that Mike Ditka is in the hospital is true and just got confirmation he is doing well. He’s Iron Mike…what would you expect. #Bears #DaBEARS

If Ditka did in fact suffer a heart attack, it isn’t the first time. He famously suffered a heart attack in 1988 while coaching and returned to the sidelines 11 days later.
Iron Mike must have nine lives. Hopefully Da Bears head coach is able to make a full recovery.
