An Arizona Diamondbacks fan who was in Colorado catching his team take on the Rockies ended up in the broadcast booth after being tricked by a fake Twitter account.

The fan thought he was tweeting Fox Sports Arizona play-by-play broadcaster Steve Berthiaume when he asked if he could stop by the booth.  He was actually tweeting a parody account.

The result was a pretty awkward exchange in the Diamondbacks broadcast booth.

Via Awful Announcing:

Michael Ravare, an Arizona Diamondbacks’ fan who was at Denver’s Coors Field to watch them play the Rockies, tweeted at the @BertDbacks account, an account that he thought was for Fox Sports Arizona play-by-play broadcaster Steve Berthiaume (despite the misspelling of Berthiaume’s name in the account profile) and asked if he could come to the booth to say hi. The account responded “Sure.”, and that led to some on-broadcast awkwardness when Ravare did just that with his sister and nephew, only to be told by Berthiaume himself that he’s not actually on Twitter:

This a good example of why social media is such a beautiful thing.  Where else can a parody create such an amazing moment?

I’m sure the fan didn’t have a ton of fun when he realized that he had been tricked, but the rest of us certainly enjoyed it.
