The Falcons and Eagles kicked off the regular season in Philadelphia on Thursday night. The night got started with Boys II Men singing the National Anthem.
All of the Eagles players were on the field for the National Anthem, even Michael Bennett, who had stayed in the locker room for it during the preseason. He reportedly walked in front of the bench during the performance and took a seat before the song ended.
The move didn’t go unnoticed…
Via Pro Football Talk:
Eagles defensive end Michael Bennett, who stayed in the locker room for the anthem during the preseason, walked in front of the bench during most of Boyz II Men’s rendition. Bennett then took a seat near the end of the song, according to Judy Battista of NFL Media.
All the Eagles were on the field, even safety Malcolm Jenkins.
It doesn’t sound like Bennett wanted to be on the field for the anthem and made the decision to do some sort of protest. Good thing the media is still paying attention to the players during the anthem and we now know that Bennett stood for most of it and sat down at the end of it.
