Before the 2002 FIFA World Cup, not many football fans knew an awful lot about Cissé, despite the fact that he had been scoring goals for fun in Ligue 1 for AJ Auxerre. Cissé was one of the forwards that was named in the squad, and he went on to make three group game appearances for Les Blues. There was more success for Cissé in the following campaign, as Liverpool won the European Super Cup as well as the FA Cup. During the European Super Cup against CSKA Moscow, Cissé scored the equaliser to take the game to Extra-Time and then he scored again to give his team the win. Then, in the FA Cup final at the end of the season, Liverpool were two down against West Ham when Cissé struck a sweet volley to give his team hope. The match finished 3-3 after 90 minutes, and Liverpool won 3-1 on penalties.
So, some might say that Cissé never lived up to his full potential as a footballer but, in our opinion, he has still had a footballing career that he can be proud of.
