The Cubs are reportedly interested in free agent closer Craig Kimbrel. In fact, he could be the latest piece in the Chicago bullpen shortly after the draft begins on Monday and there will no longer be draft compensation tied to his signing.
According to Ken Rosenthal, the Cubs are currently “doing background work” on Kimbrel. He also points out that the unexpected absence of Ben Zobrist, who is on leave dealing with a divorce, is giving the Cubs the financial flexibility to pull off the signing.
Even by taking a leave of absence, Zobrist is helping his team. Talk about a great teammate. There aren’t many guys who find a way to help their team while taking care of personal matters.
