The Tennessee Smokies, a Chicago Cubs Double-A affiliate, decided to take a shot at Nike and Colin Kaepernick over the Betsy Ross flag controversy.
The team had the Betsy Ross flag drawn into the dirt by second base and tweeted out a few pictures of it.
They captioned the now deleted tweet, “Hey @Kaepernick7 after a lot of thought, we have decided it’s best to just do it. #America.”

This was, of course, a response to reports that Kaepernick had Nike remove shoes featuring the Betsy Ross flag from their website. The Smokies later apologized for the tweet.
Regarding one of our recent tweets regarding @Kaepernick7 and our field design for tonight's game, it was meant to be a light-hearted take on a current situation. We did not mean to offend anyone by it. If it did, we certainly apologize.
