Conor McGregor announced his retirement from mixed martial arts in an early morning tweet. The 30-year-old made the surprising announcement on social media.
McGregor is one of the most entertaining fighters of all-time. In his statement he promised Proper Pina Coladas on him for all of his fellow retired fighters.
Hey guys quick announcement, I’ve decided to retire from the sport formally known as “Mixed Martial Art” today.
I wish all my old colleagues well going forward in competition.
I now join my former partners on this venture, already in retirement.
Proper Pina Coladas on me fellas!— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) March 26, 2019
Is this a real retirement or some sort of negotiation tactic with the UFC? McGregor has repeatedly said he wants a stake in the company.
McGregor’s request for a stake in the company has fallen on deaf ears. He is without a doubt one of the UFC’s biggest draws and wants a larger piece of that.
This could also be a realization on his part that the fight game has already passed him by. There are a lot of fighters who want a shot at the Irishman.
