Back in 2016 Colin Kaepernick appeared at the podium for his post-game press conference wearing a T-shirt that depicted activist Malcolm X, who was assassinated in 1965.
Kaepernick was asked about his shirt selection afterwards.
“I’ve worn many Malcolm X shirts,” Kaepernick said. “He was a great man and he lived the life that he talked about. He was someone that truly walked the walk and was a great leader for the African community, and someone I admire.”
Today, the former 49ers Quarterback paid tribute to the man known as Malcolm X.
Legend. Icon. Father. Husband. Revolutionary. Happy Birthday Malcolm X! Your spirit lives on! pic.twitter.com/hxvQ0pR1IJ

Colin Kaepernick’s steadfast commitment to social justice is admirable, but I don’t think he’ll be anywhere close to the difference maker Malcolm X was.
Although in his head he may feel like he already is.
